This is a picture of me and my husband Pete taken when we went to Croydon on Sunday to take “delivery” of a new Mini First.
Like probably many other Compers, I enter competitions and then forget about them – I don’t very often do the text message comps because of the cost but with a car as the prize I thought it worth a go.
Then just before Christmas my mobile rang and a voice said “Do you remember entering a competition to win a mini?” I had forgotten actually but said Yes expecting them to say well you haven’t won the car but you’ve won something a lot less fun, but lo and behold, the voice said “Well we are pleased to tell you that your entry was successful and you have won the Mini!”
I managed not to scream down the phone – partly because I was in shock and partly because I was in my office at work! I immediately phoned Pete and he was very impressed.
He has always tolerated my competition entering ever since I won a Safari holiday thirty years ago but most of my prizes since then have been little ones until now, although I did win a 4 day holiday in Portugal again through the Simply Prizes magazine.
All my colleagues were very impressed that someone does actually win these competitions and perhaps it may encourage them to enter more – as I keep telling them you don’t win anything unless you enter.

I am holding two letters, one is confirmation of a two night DBB break for a family of four at any QHotel, and the other is from the Daily Express regarding my PS3 Slimline win.
There are some items I have won that aren't included. These are 1 box Hi-Life cat food sachets, 1kg bag Royal Canin Cat biscuits, 1 cat Christmas stocking (my cat has already eaten these!), Trip to Blue Reef Aquarium in Portsmouth for a family of four (already used), Rendition on DVD and A DK Nature Ranger Book (i forgot to put those in).
I haven't yet won a 'big' prize but as my boys are 2 & 4 my husband and I can't dash off on a mini break without them and I am scared of flying so the exotic holidays are out.
